Find your metering point ID: distinguish it from the meter number
By EnergieFinder · Sources checked:
The short answer
The meter number identifies the device; the metering point ID identifies the connection. Austrian metering point IDs contain 33 characters and begin with AT. Find yours on contracts or bills, or ask the network operator.
Read the label before the number
Look for “Zählpunkt”, “Zählpunktbezeichnung” or “Zählpunktnummer”. Customer and invoice numbers are different IDs. The meter number also appears on the device; its length is not a universal identifier. As vkw explains, replacing a meter may change its number while the metering point stays the same.
Use the correct supply address
Use documents for the actual supply address. When moving, your old home’s details cannot replace the new ones. If there are several meters, confirm the allocation with the landlord, property manager or network operator rather than using someone else’s meter details.
Only enter the data you need
Our preparation needs your town, postcode and annual consumption. We do not ask for a metering point ID. E-Control lists it as required for the later supplier switch. Keep it in your records and send it through your chosen supplier’s designated channel when placing the actual order.
Your checklist
Tick off items as you prepare. Your ticks are not saved.
Read the original sources
The factual information was checked against these sources. Checklists and labelled examples are our own presentation. Your supplier’s current documents govern your contract.
Your next step
Prepare your comparison here. Compare current electricity and gas tariffs in the E-Control tariff calculator.
